    Description

    Founded in 1988, Food & Friends provides medically-tailored meals, nutrition support, and friendship to people living with AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses. Our team of seventy-five employees and thousands of volunteers delivers meals and hope to people living in the District of Columbia and multiple counties across Maryland and Virginia. There is no charge or income qualification for our services, which are rendered solely on the basis of medical need. Food & Friends is proud to be a nationally-recognized leader of the Food is Medicine movement.

    We seek an Intake Coordinator to oversee the client intake process to determine eligibility and appropriate level of Food & Friends’ service. Reporting to the Client Services Director, the Intake Coordinator will:

    • Review client applications to determine eligibility for service;
    • Ensure that all client documentation, including new referrals and recertifications, is collected and current according to funder requirements;
    • Communicate regularly with referral partners and case workers regarding client eligibility and documentation;
    • Assist clients and their case workers and/or health care providers with understanding the intake process and necessary intake paperwork;
    • Maintain case notes and client files; and
    • Uphold and enforce HIPAA requirements pertaining to client information.

    The successful candidate will possess a BA/BS and experience working in social services and/or health care. Some knowledge of the clinical and sociological aspects of HIV/AIDS and terminal illness strongly preferred. Additional requirements include strong written/verbal communication skills, efficient time management skills, superior organization skills, ability to multi-task, and the ability to serve a diverse population in a culturally competent manner. Spanish language skills a plus. Offer of employment contingent upon a background check and pre-employment drug test.
