    AT PLAY: A COMMUNITY PLAYSPACE

    Community Space Lead

At Play: A Community Playspace, Inc.

28 Spring Brook Park Rhinebeck, NY

    Full-Time | 40 hours/week

    Reports to: Executive Director

    About At Play

At Play is an inclusive, accessible indoor playspace for children 0–7 and their families, located at 28 Spring Brook Park in Rhinebeck, NY. We opened in September 2025 and operate seven days a week, offering open play, birthday parties, classes, drop-off sessions, and room rentals. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rooted in the belief that play is essential for children and for communities.

We’re a small, values-driven team doing meaningful work in a community we love.

    The Role

The Community Space Lead is a full-time position at the heart of At Play’s day-to-day operations. You are the consistent presence the team turns to, the person who holds the standard, and the one who makes sure the space runs well every single day.

This is a working role. You’ll be on the floor alongside your team, not managing from a distance. You open the space, build the schedule, own staff accountability, and set the tone for everything that happens each day.

The right person thinks like an owner, communicates clearly and kindly, and takes quiet pride in a space that hums.

    What You’ll Own

    Floor & Space Operations

    • Open the space and own the day from start to finish
    • Maintain and operate the cafe, play areas, and shared spaces to At Play’s standards of cleanliness and safety
    • Be the first point of contact for staff needs and family concerns during your shifts
    • Hold staff check-ins and maintain task accountability

    Staff Scheduling & Team Management

    • Build and manage the weekly schedule for part-time team members
    • Proactively manage coverage gaps, callouts, and high-volume days
    • Onboard and train new part-time staff to At Play standards
    • Manage inventory and coordinate supply ordering
    • Identify and flag team issues early, before they become problems

    Coordination & Communication

    • Coordinate weekly handoff with the Event Coordinator & Weekend Lead for weekend coverage
    • Communicate scheduling and operational updates clearly to staff and leadership
    • Contribute to At Play’s culture of warmth, inclusion, and professionalism

    Schedule

    Monday – Friday

    8:30am – approximately 4:00–5:30pm (varies by day)

    1 Saturday per month

    Total 40 hours/week · Full-time salaried

This is a salaried position. You will work one Saturday per month — coordinated with the Event Coordinator & Weekend Lead who covers the remaining Saturdays.

    Compensation & Benefits Details

    Annual salary: $50,000

    Hourly equivalent: $24/hour

    PTO: Full-time paid time off

Sick time: Full-time paid sick time

    Floating holiday: Included

    What We’re Looking For

You’re a strong fit if you:

    • Appreciate and adhere to the highest standards for cleanliness and safety
    • Stay calm and solutions-focused when the space gets busy or something goes sideways
    • Build coverage plans proactively, not reactively
    • Find genuine satisfaction in a well-run space and a well-supported team
    • Connect naturally with young children and their caregivers
    • Can have direct, respectful accountability conversations with staff without escalating everything upward
    • Can run At Play confidently and independently

    Experience & background:

    • 2+ years in a supervisory or team lead role
    • Background in a service environment — hospitality, childcare, retail, recreation, events, or similar
    • Comfort working with children ages 0–7 and their families
    • Strong organizational and communication skills
    • Scheduling, inventory, or operations experience a plus
    • Genuine alignment with At Play’s values: inclusion, accessibility, and the importance of play

    What Success Looks Like

    At 30 days:

    • You know the team, the space, and the routines
    • You’re managing the schedule and opening independently
    • Staff know to come to you first

    At 90 days:

    • Measurable reduction in missed shifts and coverage gaps
    • Consistent task completion without prompting
    • Smooth weekly handoff with Event Coordinator running like clockwork
    • Leadership reports meaningful operational relief
