    Description

Partnering with the EC Class/Lead Teacher, the Support Teacher’s main task is to support the lead teacher in maintaining an orderly, joyful, harmonious learning environment for a class of 12 to 18 nursery to kindergarten children. It is the responsibility of the adults in the classroom to work together respectfully and as good partners.

    Responsibilities

The expectations of the support teacher vary from day to day. The support teacher is expected to work with the lead teacher in creating qualities of mood, pace, and gesture conducive to Waldorf early childhood education. Good communication skills are essential.

All teachers working with the children will model engagement in healthy work activities indoors and outside as follows:

    • Assist with practical life activities such as animal care, gardening, meal preparation, cleanup, washing dishes, care of the outside or indoor environment, and participation with artistic activities when needed. This can be alongside the children or with small groups of children.
    • Include children in housekeeping and outdoor tasks, as appropriate
    • Model for the children joyfully and carefully taking up work tasks
    • Encourage independence in dressing and self-care

We are outside in all weather, so appropriate dress is expected for all kinds of weather: rain gear in rainy weather, snow gear and boots in winter, sunhat and protective sun gear in spring summer.

Experience with school gardens is a plus. Experience in a Forest or Farm kindergarten or nursery is a plus. Compensation: $20 - $25/hour

This is an hourly position during the school year with the possibility of work in summer programs. To apply, please send a resume and contact information for three references to Laurie Puca at lpuca@gmws.org.
