Summery: This position within the organizations is directly linked to fundraising for our projects. Our Communication Coodinator holds a key position within the organization due to the responsibility related to information dissemination, outreach and through the development of communication material. In addition, the communication coordinator will be working to create events and activities for fundraising purposes for the organization, with special attention to the contacts and opportunities in the USA and Canada. The Communication Coordinator will work under the leadership of the Communication Manager and will also work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator in helping to organise the logistic of volunteer groups and visitors. The incumbent will be in regular contact with our fundraising partners in Guatemala, the USA and Holland and help contribute to robust and cohesive marketing program.
Location: The Constru Casa offices are located just outside Antigua Guatemala, but the position requires visits to different construction sites around Antigua and sometimes in more rural areas.
Role and Responsibility for the Communications Coordinator:
We are looking for a candidate who is an intelligent, strategic, flexible, out-going and resourceful professional with a good attention to detail.
Under the leadership of the Communication Manager, execute a creative marketing and communications strategy relying on the Fundraising and Communication Plan of the organization. The Communications Coordinator is expected to increase the level of outreach in order to contribute to the growth of the organization and increase awareness in Guatemala and abroad (with special attention to USA and Canada) related to the work and achievements of Constru Casa, the housing situation for communities living in extreme poverty in Guatemala and their further needs for community development This will mean contacting Universities, Foundations, Corporations, and Churches and help maintain the social medias of the organisation. Moreover, the incumbent is expected to possess excellent graphic skills in order to develop visual product for the organisation (flyers, posters etc.). And also to possess excellent communication skills (also written) in order to communicate with a wide range of (possible) donors and supporters of Constru Casa
The position occasionally requires some flexibility outside normal working hours to meet donors or volunteers, and take part in events in Antigua and possibly Guatemala City. Some local travel may be required at times to visit beneficiary families, community construction or partner social work organizations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reach out to organisations (foundations, corporations, churches, universities) to promote our volunteer program or to find funding opportunities
- Design marketing products and material for Constru Casa
- Help write and find content for the social media and website
- Create online campaigns to reach different target groups, like monthly donors, volunteer groups, ambassadors, etc.
- Write and find content for newsletter and promotional material
- Support in writing donor reports
- Maintain donor database information system
- Support the volunteer coordinator in organising the logistic surrounding volunteer trips
- Follow up on the communication with former volunteers and visitors
- Organise in conjunction with the team members, local events and inaugurations
- Help creating and distribute promotional material and posters (in hotel, tour Companies, Spanish schools)
- Find and post video content
- Touching up photos
- Perform other tasks as required
Position requirements:
- Positive attitude and sensitivity towards Constru Casa's mission and the housing problems in Guatemala
- Minimum commitment of 2 years
- Educational background related to communications/ marketing/ public relations.
- Relevant experience in marketing, communications, and/or promotions (direct marketing)
- Experience in development, a passion and desire to help disadvantaged families in Guatemala.
- A team player who is able to fit into a largely Guatemalan team
- Ability to multi-task
- Detail oriented and with the ability to handle multiple deadlines
- Proactive, dedicated, diplomatic, enthusiastic person with strong administration skills, a practical mindset and an effective problem solver
Skills:
- Good communication and social skills, as much with international donors, local managers, social workers, volunteers, as with our recipient families
- Very good graphic, social media and web design skills (experience with Joomla is a plus) and savvy with content management system (Adobe Package)
- Fluent verbal and written communication in English and Spanish.
Commensurate with experience and local Guatemalan NGO salaries.
We will take into consideration the relevant experience and the length of contract. The work travel expenses in Guatemala are covered by the organization. International travel, medical insurance, etcetera will be responsibility of the incumbent.
