About Community Health Services
Since 1971, Community Health Services has been a trusted nonprofit leader in preventive health care for the Roaring Fork Valley. Founded as the Aspen Valley Visiting Nurses Association, CHS has grown into a safety-net clinic whose mission is to promote health through the delivery of high-quality, affordable preventive health services for everyone in the community — with inclusiveness, respect, and compassion.
CHS serves residents and visitors across Pitkin, Garfield, and Eagle counties, from Aspen to Parachute. We are one of roughly 40 Title X clinics in Colorado and a 340B-covered entity, giving priority to clients at or below 250% of the federal poverty level who are uninsured or underinsured. We accept commercial insurance, Medicaid, CHP+, and Medicare, and offer a sliding fee scale so that no one is turned away for inability to pay. Many of the clients we serve are Spanish-speaking, and for many patients CHS is the only clinician they see all year.
Our programs include women's health and family planning, breast and cervical cancer screening, prenatal care, immunizations, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, tuberculosis services, and our mobile Bright Smiles and Bright Start oral health program. Each year CHS delivers thousands of preventive visits and reaches students, expectant mothers, and seniors throughout the valley.
The Opportunity
The Clinical Operations Director is the clinical and operational engine of our clinic. Partnering closely with the Executive Director, this leader is responsible for running the day-to-day clinical operation so that CHS meets or exceeds its goals in productivity, revenue, patient visits, quality, compliance, and patient satisfaction. The role spans both the clinical and administrative sides of every program and directly leads a team of clinical staff. It includes the opportunity to maintain some direct patient care with the administrative elements of the role.
This is a rare opportunity to combine hands-on clinical leadership with operational strategy in a mission-driven organization where the work has immediate, visible impact on the health of an underserved community. If you are an experienced clinical leader who is equally comfortable coaching a team, tightening a workflow, and reading a program budget, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Do
Clinical Operations & Program Oversight
- Oversee all clinical services — prenatal, family planning, cancer prevention, sexually transmitted infections, tuberculosis, and immunizations — in collaboration with the Executive Director, medical advisors, board medical officer, and staff.
- Monitor and evaluate operations, program budgets, processes, and practices for quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness, keeping the clinic running as smoothly as possible.
- Evolve program guidelines, policies, and procedures for clinical services that reinforce quality standards aligned with our mission and values.
- Maintain licensure, training, and preparedness to deliver clinical care that is appropriate to your license when clinic needs arise, such as staff PTO or shortages.
- You may dedicate a fraction of your time to ongoing clinical care, in collaboration with the ED.
Quality, Compliance & Regulatory
- Ensure compliance with all provider, nursing, and health care standards and federal guidelines across every clinical program.
- Govern and supervise quality-improvement strategies, delivery, and outcomes.
- Oversee and carefully maintain renewals of licenses, revalidations, and payer credentialing.
- Ensure clinical programs meet all federal, state and county grant and contract requirements, including Title X, Vaccines for Children, 317, 340B, and Women’s Wellness Connection, etc., working with program leads on required trainings, reporting, and funder meetings.
People Leadership
- Manage and develop clinical staff, including recruitment, onboarding, training, performance evaluation, and conflict resolution.
- Serve as a resource, coach, and mentor to the clinical team.
- Assist with clinical assessments of patients, patient navigation, and case management.
- Assist in daily clinic duties, covering for staff absences or breaks across all programs.
Data, Finance & Reporting
- Maintain data and record-keeping practices, including pricing, chart audits, data cleanup, data collection, and grant reporting.
- Develop patient charges for all services, including cost analysis and the patient sliding fee scale based on the federal poverty guidelines.
- Oversee and support medical coding, superbill completion, resolution of problem lists, and all other reimbursement issues in collaboration with clinical team, contract billing specialist, and the front office staff.
- Lead improvement of clinical documentation and tracking systems, including the EHR.
- Oversee HIPAA compliance, and review clinical policies, protocols, and standing orders regularly.
Community & Public Health Partnership
- Deliver education, health-promotion, and disease-prevention presentations to community partners and the general public.
- Represent CHS as the point of contact and liaison with Pitkin County Public Health for Emergency Preparedness and Response activities (EPR, vaccination clinics, ESF participation).
What You Bring
- Bachelor of Nursing or higher and an active nursing license — RN/BSN, NP, APRN, MSN, or CNM. Advanced practice license, PA, or MD preferred but not required.
- Spanish-language fluency — the majority of our clients prefer a Spanish-speaking provider.
- Ten (10) years of clinical or public health experience.
- Three (3) years of management experience in a clinic or comparable medical office.
- Familiarity with electronic health records and IT infrastructure (CureMD or similar, Microsoft Suite, Google Workspace).
- Knowledge of the public health system and of relevant governmental and clinical regulations and quality standards.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the emotional intelligence to coach, mentor, relate to, and listen to team members (and eagerness to be coached and mentored as part of ongoing personal and professional development).
- Exceptional written, oral, and presentation skills, with the ability to interface effectively with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Ability to monitor program and organizational budgets.
- Maturity to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines.
- Sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Some working knowledge of nonprofit operations.
- Demonstrated awareness of the principles of health equity and cultural competency.
