    POSITION: Administrative Coordinator – Medical Legal Partnership Workgroup

    LOCATION: Long Beach Community Office*

    The Workgroup: LAFLA’s Medical Legal Partnerships work with healthcare professionals to identify and help patients reach their optimal health. MLP attorneys and paralegals holistically advocate on behalf of patients in substantive legal areas impacting the social determinants of health such as landlord/tenant, family law, immigration, government benefits, and re-entry. This is a great opportunity for advocates seeking legal experience in a variety of substantive areas.

    LAFLA is currently accepting applications for the position of Administrative Coordinator.

    Assigned location is subject to change during course of employment.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    􀁸 Must be computer proficient; has experience with Word, Excel, and Power Point;

    􀁸 Experience interviewing individuals in crisis and/or providing assistance to individuals who have low-income;

    􀁸 Self-motivated, organized, and ability to manage a high-volume caseload;

    􀁸 Comfortable with case management systems and other technology;

    􀁸 Commitment to social justice;

    􀁸 Good written and oral communications skills;

    􀁸 Demonstrated ability to work independently;

    􀁸 Spanish language skills required; and

    􀁸 Ability to work collaboratively with all LAFLA staff, clients, and community organizations.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

    􀁸 Answers client calls; conducts phone and in-person client intakes; screens clients for eligibility and triages appropriate legal assistance;

    􀁸 Works with advocates in clinic settings to increase legal services to the Long Beach community;

    􀁸 Coordinates logistic and administrative aspects of various projects, including updating forms, brochures, templates, and Power Point presentations; and preparing/sending out materials;

    􀁸 Performs a variety of responsible administrative duties, such as maintaining electronic and hardcopy filing systems and appointment calendars, answering inquiries via email, over the phone or in person, case management system data entry (i.e., case opening and closing), and managing administrative details with minimum direction;

    􀁸 Opens and closes cases in real time;

    􀁸 Assists with managing attorney case loads and related administrative tasks;

    􀁸 Answers a variety of inquiries on the status of legal procedure, and on the general procedural aspects of processing legal actions by the office, under appropriate supervision;

    􀁸 Under the supervision of an attorney, conducts intake and handles cases that involve landlord/tenant, family law, government benefits, and immigration related legal issues;

    􀁸 Works collaboratively with paralegals and attorneys to provide holistic services and referrals;

    􀁸 Translates routine correspondence to Spanish; provides Spanish interpretation of legal documents and court forms to clients; and

    􀁸 Other duties as assigned.
