    Encore Fellow (Independent Contractor) – Marketing Operations & Mentorship Lead

    Host Organization: United Way of Gloucester County (UWGC)

    Location: Woodbury, NJ (Hybrid)

    Time Commitment: 20–25 hours per week (Flexible Schedule)

    Duration: 6–12 Months

    Compensation: $2,000 monthly stipend funded through the Community Foundation of South Jersey (CFSJ) Encore Fellows Initiative

    About the Community Foundation of South Jersey Encore Fellows Initiative

    The Community Foundation of South Jersey (CFSJ) Encore Fellows Initiative connects experienced older adults with nonprofit organizations to lead high-impact, capacity-building projects that strengthen communities across South Jersey.

    Encore Fellows are accomplished professionals who bring decades of knowledge, leadership, and expertise to organizations working to solve important community challenges. Fellows serve as independent contractors and receive a $2,000 monthly stipend funded by the Community Foundation of South Jersey for the duration of the fellowship.

    This initiative is designed for professionals who want to continue making a meaningful difference while enjoying a flexible and rewarding opportunity to give back.

    About United Way of Gloucester County

    United Way of Gloucester County (UWGC) works to improve lives by bringing organizations, businesses, volunteers, and community leaders together to address the region's most pressing needs.

    To strengthen the capacity of local nonprofits, UWGC is launching an innovative Shared Marketing Office that will provide affordable marketing and communications support to participating nonprofit organizations throughout Gloucester County.

    The office will be staffed by college marketing interns through Volunteer Center South Jersey and supported by experienced professionals who can provide leadership, mentorship, and operational guidance.

    The Opportunity

    United Way of Gloucester County is seeking an experienced marketing and communications professional to serve as the founding Marketing Operations & Mentorship Lead for this exciting new initiative.

    This Encore Fellow will help build the systems, structure, and training that allow the Shared Marketing Office to become a sustainable resource serving nonprofits throughout Gloucester County.

    Working closely with UWGC staff, nonprofit leaders, and college interns, the Fellow will establish operational processes, mentor emerging communications professionals, and strengthen the marketing capacity of organizations that make a difference every day.

    This is an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy by building a model that can benefit the nonprofit sector for years to come.

    What You'll Do

    Build the Shared Marketing Office

    • Design workflows and operating procedures for marketing requests
    • Develop project management and work-order systems
    • Create service standards and quality control processes
    • Build centralized marketing resources for participating nonprofits

    Mentor the Next Generation

    • Recruit, train, and mentor college marketing interns
    • Provide coaching and professional development
    • Supervise marketing volunteers
    • Foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment

    Strengthen Nonprofit Communications

    • Help nonprofits improve marketing and public relations efforts
    • Develop templates, branding resources, newsletters, and social media tools
    • Support strategic communications planning
    • Recommend best practices that increase community engagement

    Create Sustainable Infrastructure

    • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
    • Produce training manuals and onboarding resources
    • Build a knowledge base that future interns and volunteers can continue using
    • Position the Shared Marketing Office for long-term success

    Desired Impact

    By the conclusion of the fellowship, the Encore Fellow will help UWGC achieve measurable results, including:

    • Establishing a fully operational Shared Marketing Office
    • Creating documented systems and sustainable operational processes
    • Improving marketing effectiveness for participating nonprofit organizations
    • Increasing social media engagement across participating organizations
    • Mentoring multiple cohorts of college interns and helping them build valuable professional experience
    • Creating a scalable shared-services model that can continue growing after the fellowship concludes

    Qualifications

    Applicants should possess:

    • Must be at least 55 years of age
    • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in marketing, communications, branding, public relations, advertising, or a related field
    • Experience leading teams, managing projects, and mentoring professionals
    • Knowledge of digital marketing, branding, content creation, social media strategy, and public relations
    • Experience developing organizational systems, workflows, or operational processes
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong organizational and project management abilities
    • Ability to work independently while collaborating with multiple partners
    • Experience working with nonprofit organizations is strongly preferred

    • Participating nonprofit organizations
    • College marketing interns and volunteers
