GRID Special District Campaign Coordinator
(GRID/Green Resilience Industrial District)
Founded in 1966, UPROSE is an intergenerational, BIWOC-led, internationally recognized community organization. UPROSE works at the intersection of racial justice and climate change through community-based planning and research, policy advocacy, popular education, organizing, artistic expression, and youth leadership development.
The Green Resilience Industrial District (GRID) is UPROSE’s transformational community Just Transition plan that seeks to operationalize a Just Transition in Sunset Park through the “green reindustrialization” of its waterfront. The GRID’s first goal is to “Strengthen the working-class character of Sunset Park through the preservation of maritime and industrial land uses and neighborhood jobs.” The first step to achieve this goal is New York City’s adoption of a GRID Special Purpose Zoning District. The GRID Special District Campaign Coordinator will coordinate all campaign-related activities needed to achieve this objective. In addition, the Coordinator will coordinate all work on GRID-related green reindustrialization initiatives, including climate-related manufacturing and supply chains.
