    Description

Democracy at Work Institute (DAWI) seeks a detail-oriented, collaborative, and data-savvy contractor to support our Data & Research team. Our work centers on expanding democratic employee ownership of business as a strategy for racial, gender, and economic equity. The Data Support Contractor will work closely with the Data & Research Strategist and the Director of Research & Impact to strengthen data quality, support reporting, and maintain core data systems across the organization.

Our team values accuracy, clarity, and thoughtful reflection in our data practices. We aim to build systems that help DAWI understand its impact and support the broader worker cooperative field. As with all DAWI work, this role is grounded in our organizational values and our commitment to equity, collaboration, and operational excellence.

    About the Role

The Data Support Contractor will work closely with the Data & Research Strategist and the Director of Research & Impact to strengthen data quality, support reporting, and maintain core data systems across the organization.

This role provides operational support to ensure that DAWI’s data infrastructure remains accurate, organized, and usable across programs. The contractor will assist with tasks such as data entry, cleaning and preparing datasets, supporting survey tools and data collection processes, maintaining internal data documentation, and helping prepare data outputs used in reporting and analysis.

The contractor will work directly with the Data & Research Strategist and the Director of Research & Impact, supporting priority data operations and system support tasks that strengthen DAWI’s ability to track impact and learn from program data.

    About DAWI

The Democracy at Work Institute (DAWI) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding democratic employee ownership as a strategy for racial, gender, and economic equity.

Through research, field-building, training, and advocacy, DAWI supports the growth of worker-owned cooperatives and other forms of employee ownership that build wealth and power in historically marginalized communities.

Our work includes developing new models and tools, supporting cooperative developers and worker-owners, and producing research that strengthens the broader field of democratic ownership. Across our programs and internal operations, we strive to embody our organizational values of Excellence, Equity, Entrepreneurialism, Collaboration, and Human-Centeredness.

    • Process and organize incoming survey responses
    • Track incoming data submissions across programs and maintain dashboards indicating submission status
    • Ensure backend data (records, linkages, field values) is accurate and complete so staff can conduct targeted outreach based on submission status
    • Troubleshoot survey tools and support staff in using them effectively

    Analysis, Visualization, & Reporting Support

    • Provide light analysis support using R, SPSS, or similar tools, depending on skills and capacity
    • Prepare charts, tables, and basic data visualizations using Tableau or similar tools
    • Assist with descriptive statistics and data summaries used in internal and external reports
    • Help streamline report production by maintaining organized, analysis-ready datasets

    Data Workflow and Systems Improvement

    • Surface observations about data inconsistencies or workflow inefficiencies
    • Assist the team in improving data organization, reporting processes, and documentation
    • Support ongoing improvements to DAWI’s data systems and data architecture

The contractor may also assist with other data-related tasks that support the work of the Data & Research team as needed.
