About LARC:
Los Angeles Reporting Collective (LARC) is a small but growing nonprofit project that supports emerging reporters, builds community and creates accessible programs for journalists and civic media makers in Los Angeles. We run a reporting fellowship, collaborative events, workshops and other initiatives focused on local journalism in Southern California.
Role Overview:
LARC is looking for someone to support our senior staff, help drive LARC’s communications, collaborate with our partners and help keep our projects moving forward. We’re a three-person team looking for someone who’s excited to work hand-in-hand with our staff. The person who’ll do best here is highly organized and eager to learn new things.
The role is a 12-month position (with the possibility of continuing beyond that period).
This role sits at the intersection of operations and communications, with time divided evenly between the two. Some days you’ll be helping move projects forward behind the scenes. Others, you’ll be focused on how LARC shows up publicly.
On the operations side: you’ll support our team in building and maintaining LARC’s relationships with our partners (local news outlets, funders, community organizations) and the people we serve (journalists, creators, nonfiction storytellers). Through this work, you’ll support collaborations and help turn relationships and ideas into actual programs, especially around LARC’s live events. A big part of this role is helping with the day-to-day operations work that moves projects forward. That means taking good notes in meetings, keeping track of where projects stand, doing background research and drafting emails and project proposals.
On the communications side: we’re looking for someone who gets excited about leading creative, engaging messaging. That might mean turning a live educational event into a short video, creating a fun profile of one of our grantees or adapting a piece of reporting we supported into a carousel. Through comms projects, you’ll help local journalists get useful resources and information. This is an area where we want to empower the person in this role to exercise leadership skills as time goes on.
