    GBIV Overview

Greater Brookland Intergenerational Village (GBIV) is a small, hyper-local, nonprofit founded in 2020 with an annual budget of approximately $140,000. We are volunteer-driven and dedicated to building a strong, intergenerational community in the greater Brookland area of Washington, DC. GBIV provides social, wellness, and educational programs, while coordinating volunteers to deliver practical support services such as transportation, home maintenance, and technology assistance to our members.

    Position Summary

This is a part-time, short-term contractor role supporting the planning and development of a resident-informed Help Desk model at a subsidized senior housing community in Edgewood. The Consultant will help build relationships with residents and stakeholders, facilitate community engagement activities, support volunteer recruitment and training efforts, and assist in developing recommendations for future implementation. This is a short-term planning role focused on community assessment, relationship-building, and operational readiness rather than direct service delivery.

    Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement & Resident Outreach (8-10 hours max)

    • Lead on-site information and listening sessions for residents introducing GBIV and the proposed Help Desk concept (content will be provided).
    • Conduct on-site outreach to encourage resident participation in engagement activities.
    • Build positive relationships with residents, housing staff, and community partners and assist with recruitment of resident leaders and foster resident leadership and participation throughout the planning process.
    • Assist in assessing site readiness and opportunities for future Help Desk implementation.

Documentation & Reporting (8-10 hours max)

    • Maintain records of meetings, listening sessions, and engagement activities. Prepare summaries of resident feedback and key themes. Document resident priorities, service needs, barriers, and community strengths.
    • Assist in developing a community needs summary and implementation readiness recommendations.

    Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Experience in community engagement, community organizing, aging services, disability services, public health, social work, housing, or related fields and knowledge of community-based service systems in Washington, DC.
    • Strong facilitation and relationship-building skills and experience conducting listening sessions, focus groups, or community outreach.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
    • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and resident-centered planning.
    • Familiarity with affordable or subsidized housing communities.
