    Description

The Center for Transnational Environmental Accountability is seeking a short-term consultant to support policy research related to the emerging bauxite refining (alumina) sector in Guinea-Conakry. CTEA advocates for robust environmental responsibility standards and better alignment with international decarbonization goals within the industry. The ideal candidate will bring technical insight into bauxite refining operations and the practical realities of decarbonization, particularly in low-income contexts with significant infrastructure constraints.

The consultant's role will likely include providing insight on the energy use, emissions profile, and operational requirements of refining facilities; helping to assess the feasibility of different lower-carbon refining approaches in contexts with limited infrastructure and governance capacity; and identifying internationally recognized best practices for the industry that may be practicable, particularly in Guinea.

We are seeking someone familiar with industrial processes related to bauxite refining and/or industrial decarbonization. This opportunity may be especially well-suited for:

    • Early career researchers (e.g. PhD candidates or recent graduates) working on industrial decarbonization, energy systems, or extractive industries
    • Individuals with industry experience in alumina refining or aluminum production
    • Researchers studying energy use in industrial processes and/or low-carbon industrial pathways
    • Experience with corporate accountability standards a plus

    Level of Language Proficiency

English a required language. Proficiency in French desirable, due to potential research related to Guinea.
