    Description

    The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing day-to-day accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring grant compliance. This role supports leadership by maintaining financial transparency and preparing data for annual audits. Duties include:

    • Transaction Recording. Accurately record and classify income, expenses, donations, and grant funding in the general ledger.
    • Fund Tracking. Segregate and track restricted vs. unrestricted funds to ensure donor contributions are utilized for their intended purposes.
    • Accounts Payable/Receivable. Process vendor invoices, issue reimbursements, record pledges, and manage deposit preparation.
    • Reconciliation & Reporting. Reconcile bank and credit card statements monthly. Assist in generating statements of financial position and activities.
    • Payroll. Process bi-weekly payroll and administer employee benefits.
    • Audit Preparation. Collaborate with external accountants to provide supporting documentation for annual reviews/audits and IRS Form 990.
    • Budget Support. Help leadership monitor budget vs. actuals and track grant spending to meet grantor reporting requirements.
    • Other duties as specified.

    SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

    • 2-5 years of bookkeeping experience, ideally within a 501(c)(3) or similar nonprofit setting.
    • Proficiency in nonprofit-specific accounting systems like QuickBooks Online/Desktop, as well as Microsoft Excel.
    • Solid understanding of fund accounting principles and compliance requirements for maintaining tax-exempt status.
    • High attention to detail, strict adherence to financial confidentiality, and strong organizational and communication skills.
