    Syrbanism gUG is a Syrian civil society organization registered in Berlin, Germany. Syrbanism works on urban recovery, civic participation, Housing, Land and Property rights, environmental justice, participatory planning, spatial justice, knowledge production, and community-led development in Syria.

    As part of its work with Syrian civil society actors and researchers, Syrbanism is seeking an experienced Digital Security and OSINT Consultant to design and deliver online training sessions tailored to participants working in sensitive and high-risk environments.

    Opportunity Overview

    The consultant will design and deliver two interactive online training sessions focused on digital security and Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT). The training should be practical, accessible, and adapted to the Syrian context and the operational realities of activists, researchers, journalists, humanitarian workers, and civil society organizations.

    Scope of Work

    The consultant will be expected to:

    • Design and deliver two interactive online training sessions on digital security and OSINT.
    • Develop training materials, presentations, and practical exercises adapted to the Syrian context and audience needs.
    • Ensure the sessions are participatory, accessible, and suitable for online delivery.
    • Use practical examples, real-life cases, and scenario-based learning relevant to Syria and the wider MENA region.
    • Provide recommendations, tools, and resources for continued learning and safer online practices.

    Suggested Training Topics

    Session 1: Digital Security

    Topics may include:

    • Digital risk assessment and threat modeling
    • Account and device security
    • Password management and multi-factor authentication
    • Secure communication practices
    • Operational security
    • Protection against phishing, surveillance, and online targeting
    • Digital safety considerations specific to Syrian civil society actors and researchers

    Session 2: OSINT and Online Investigations

    Topics may include:

    • Introduction to OSINT methodologies
    • Source verification and fact-checking
    • Social media investigations
    • Ethical and security considerations in OSINT work
    • OSINT challenges and risks within the Syrian context

    Deliverables

    The consultant will provide:

    • Training plan
    • Presentation slides and supporting materials
    • Delivery of two online training sessions
    • Practical exercises and/or case studies
    • Recommended tools and resources for participants

    Required Qualifications

    Applicants should demonstrate:

    • Strong professional experience in digital security, OSINT, online investigations, verification, or related fields.
    • Proven experience designing and delivering online trainings effectively and interactively.
    • Experience working with Syrian audiences and/or strong understanding of the digital risks faced by Syrian civil society actors, journalists, researchers, and activists.
    • Practical expertise in digital security tools, secure communications, verification techniques, and OSINT methodologies.
    • Previous experience working with civil society organizations, NGOs, media organizations, humanitarian actors, or international organizations.
    • Excellent facilitation and communication skills.
    • Fluency in Arabic is strongly preferred.
    • English proficiency is required.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working in conflict-affected or high-risk environments.
    • Familiarity with MENA-focused digital threats and disinformation ecosystems.
    • Experience producing training materials for non-technical audiences.
