    Meals on Wheels of Takoma Park/Silver Spring

    Meals on Wheels of Takoma Park/Silver Spring is seeking a Part Time Accountant to manage the organization’s day to day accounting and financial reporting. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, completing monthly close activities, and ensuring leadership has timely and reliable financial information.

    This position is ideal for someone who is experienced in nonprofit accounting, comfortable independently managing the accounting needs of a small organization, and able to work directly with leadership on financial reporting and controls.

    What You’ll Do

    • Manage day to day accounting and maintain the general ledger
    • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
    • Complete bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
    • Independently manage the monthly close process
    • Prepare monthly financial statements and reports for leadership
    • Track revenue and expenses across grants, contracts, programs, and restricted funding
    • Reconcile payroll and related accounts
    • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
    • Review account activity and identify and resolve discrepancies
    • Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure transactions are properly classified
    • Support annual budgeting and budget to actual reporting
    • Prepare financial documentation and schedules for the annual audit and tax preparation
    • Work with leadership to maintain strong financial processes and internal controls
    • Coordinate with external auditors, tax professionals, and other financial partners as needed

    What We’re Looking For

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
    • At least 3 years of accounting experience
    • Experience independently managing monthly close and financial reporting
    • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
    • Experience with nonprofit accounting, grants, contracts, and restricted funding strongly preferred
    • Experience with QuickBooks Online required
    • Strong general ledger and reconciliation experience
    • Ability to identify and resolve accounting issues independently
    • Strong organization and attention to detail
    • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to staff and leadership
    • Experience with payroll and accounts payable systems preferred

    Position Details

    Title: Part Time Accountant

    Location: Hybrid in Takoma Park/Silver Spring

    Schedule: Part time, 20 hours per week with a regular onsite presence and some scheduling flexibility

    Pay: $35.00 to $40.00 per hour

    Benefits:

    • Paid vacation: Receive 35 hours in Years 1 to 3, increasing with tenure.
    • Paid sick leave: Receive 60 hours per calendar year
    • Paid holidays: Receive prorated holiday pay after 90 days.
