We have been a leader in the field of adventure learning, ropes courses (“challenge courses”), teacher training, adventure therapy, and experiential learning since 1971, with the mission of building social and emotional skills and strengthening the education sector through adventure. With a staff of 35+, clients across the country, and a broad array of revenue streams, Project Adventure (“PA”) is a dynamic and unique organization with an exemplary internal culture and a long legacy. We are in a strong financial position and looking to grow in the upcoming years. We are seeking a Finance professional to join our tight-knit team.

    General Job Description:

    The Director of Finance and Administration will be the senior-most finance role at Project Adventure, working alongside the Executive Director to monitor and manage the organization’s fiscal health. This includes managing the accounting process, budgeting and reporting, forecasting and cash flow analysis. This position will also oversee core functions of our infrastructure such as employee benefits and business insurances. As a Director, this position is part of the leadership team of Project Adventure and is expected to collaborate with and support other senior managers, the Executive Director, and the Board of Directors. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and a dependable colleague who helps the team succeed through reliability, clear communication, and resourcefulness.

    Responsibilities Include:

    Finance Management

    • Oversee the accounting functions performed by PA’s outside service provider, including AP, the general ledger (Quickbooks), and payroll process (ADP).
    • Oversee the organization’s use of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Relationship Management (“CRM”) database.
    • Forecast cash flow and update cash liquidity report.
    • Manage and support the AR function and contract management process through the CRM.
    • Review monthly profit/loss, balance sheet and related supporting documents.
    • Present financial results each month to the CEO, department heads, and the Board. Maintain and improve monthly reporting dashboards.
    • Prepare the annual budget and interim forecasts with participation by department heads and the CEO. Present annual budget to the Board for approval.
    • Manage banking relationships.
    • Coordinate with an independent CPA for completion of the annual audit. Provide annual audited financial statements to the Board for review.
    • Prepare budgets and financial reports for grants and track reporting of project/program budgets and expenditures to foundations.

    Financial Planning & Analysis

    • Assist in strategic planning by drafting and analyzing financial forecasts.
    • Be forward-looking: project the organization’s financial performance into the near future, identify trends, and creatively problem-solve.
    • Monitor the economic environment to identify risks to the organization and find opportunities for growth and improvement.

    HR and Administration

    • Oversee the HR administration.
    • Work with a benefits broker to select and manage employee benefits.
    • Manage and oversee complex business insurance requirements, including general and professional liability, international, and workers compensation across multiple states. Prepare and submit annual insurance audits and reporting.
    • Monitor all regulatory matters such as tax compliance, state licensing and registration, and Prevailing Wage.

    Teamwork & Collaboration

    • Work closely with the heads of each department to track performance towards budget and inform action plans for growth and improvement.
    • Be part of the leadership team, making crucial decisions for the organization and supporting its strategic growth.

    Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
    • Experience managing full cycle accounting process.
    • Substantial systems and Excel skillset.
    • Experience with and enjoyment of managing and working as a team is essential.
    • Skills and experience in financial analysis, strategic thinking, communication, and collaboration.
    • CPA, MBA, or similar certification not required but appreciated.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    • $90,000 - $100,000, commensurate with experience, with performance-based bonuses dependent on the organization’s financial health
