    About One Good Turn

One Good Turn Global Health (OGT) is a nonprofit organization providing practical medical education and training for health workers and community leaders in resource-limited settings worldwide. Our mission is to build sustainable pathways to better health outcomes through education. Since its founding in 2016, OGT has completed 70 medical education projects in 13 countries across 4 continents. Learn more at www.onegoodturn.org.

We are currently implementing our SHARE (School Health Agency, Resources, and Education) Program in Kenya, and looking to expand globally in the coming years. SHARE equips teachers in Kenya with the practical health skills and resources to serve as School Health Officers (SHOs) and provide essential health education and care within their schools. OGT’s proprietary training curriculum includes key areas such as clinical assessments (height, weight, mid-upper arm circumference [MUAC], growth curves), healthcare interventions (rehydration, menstrual pain, wound and burn care), and health education (nutrition, sexual and reproductive health, oral health). To date, SHARE has successfully trained 450 teachers across 111 schools, serving 43,500 students.

    The Position

We are seeking a Development Director (DD) with extensive fundraising experience and existing networks to connect OGT with key global health funders. This is a newly created position, reflecting OGT’s commitment to expanding SHARE over the coming years. The DD will provide strategic leadership with a focus on major gifts, institutional funding, and long-term donor strategy. Working in close partnership with the Executive Director (ED), the DD will bring extensive expertise in global health or human rights fundraising to drive revenue growth and build a sustainable funding base. A successful DD will increase revenue by $500,000 over the next two years.

The DD works at the strategic level: setting fundraising direction, establishing and maintaining high-value donor relationships, leading grant writing, and mentoring the Communications & Development Manager (CDM). One Good Turn’s CDM leads day-to-day implementation of development strategies - including donor communications, donor record management, grant opportunity tracking, and generation of communications materials.

    Key Responsibilities

Major Gifts & Donor Strategy (50%)

    • Lead high-level donor cultivation and relationship management, focusing on major gift prospects, high-capacity individuals, and institutional funders.
    • Develop and implement a long-term fundraising strategy in partnership with the ED, including annual revenue goals, donor segmentation, and a multi-year pipeline.
    • With the support of CDM, manage a portfolio of top-tier donors and prospects, from identification through solicitation and stewardship.
    • Attend donor-hosted events, university-affiliated engagements, conferences, and other donor cultivation opportunities to present One Good Turn.
    • Provide strategic direction on donor stewardship touchpoints, ensuring consistency with the overall fundraising roadmap.

    Grant Strategy & Management (40%)

    • Lead grant strategy, identifying and prioritizing funding opportunities from foundations, government agencies, and institutional funders aligned with One Good Turn’s mission.
    • Author and oversee the development of compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and grant reports in collaboration with the ED and supported by the CDM.
    • Build and maintain relationships with foundations and institutional funders, positioning One Good Turn as a trusted partner.

    Development Leadership (10%)

    • Partner with the ED to align development priorities with organizational programming and budget needs.
    • Serve as strategic mentor to the CDM, providing guidance on fundraising best practices and feedback on drafted materials including:
      • Fundraising campaigns, ensuring alignment between campaign messaging, program goals, and major donor priorities
      • Donor-facing communications materials, including the annual report, donor newsletters, and grant reports

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred (public health, nonprofit management, international development, or related field)
    • Minimum five to seven years of nonprofit fundraising experience, with a demonstrated track record of success at a global health, global development, or human rights organization
    • Proven history of personally cultivating, soliciting, and closing major gifts from individual donors and/or foundations
    • Demonstrated expertise developing successful grant proposals in the global health or international development space
    • Experience managing or mentoring fundraising staff
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate global health programming impact and objectives to diverse donor audiences
    • Familiarity with CRM platforms and digital fundraising tools
    • Ability to work independently and lead strategically in a remote, part-time capacity
    • Existing relationships with foundations or donors working in global health strongly preferred

    Compensation

Compensation for this role will be negotiated based on applicants' experience. This is a part-time salaried position, payable bi-weekly or monthly. Compensation will be reviewed annually, or at the discretion of the ED, with any adjustments subject to mutual agreement. As a part-time position, this role is not eligible for employer-sponsored benefits. There may be an opportunity in the future to transition the position to full-time.
