Our vision is a world where the joy of bike riding is accessible to everybody. Our mission is to demystify and normalize bike riding as a part of daily life and realize the bicycle as a tool of personal and community empowerment.

This dual-focus role involves teaching bike active transportation courses while serving as the primary point of contact for our volunteer program. You will be responsible for maintaining our current volunteer roster and creatively expanding opportunities to ensure our community has a direct hand in our mission.

Why This Work Matters (Community Context)

Second Cycle serves the Hilltop neighborhood, which has historically been the heart of Tacoma’s Black community. Nationally, the need for equitable bike access is backed by clear statistics:

    • Growth in Cycling: Between 2001 and 2009, the fastest growth in bicycling was among the African American community (100% increase) and Hispanic community (80% increase).
    • Safety Disparities: CDC data shows that Black and Hispanic cyclists face fatality rates 30% and 23% higher, respectively, than white cyclists.

By joining our team, you are directly addressing these disparities through education, representation, and resource distribution.
