Aftercare Preschool Assistant
Reports to: Director of Auxiliary Programs
Hours: 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
Position follows the school calendar; additional hours may be available during summer programs.
SCHOOL DESCRIPTION
Since its founding in 1977, Marin Horizon has been providing a challenging and robust academic program combined with character-enhancing life skills. Marin Horizon is a place of creative, active learning built around our commitment to developing each student’s confident voice. Marin Horizon serves about 300 students from toddler through grade eight and is located in Mill Valley, CA.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
- Support preschool-aged students (3-4 years) in classrooms as a support/floating assistant between 12-2 p.m.
- Assist lead teachers with classroom dynamics and transitions proactively and thoughtfully.
- Supervise and engage preschool students in the after-school program between 2-5 p.m., overseeing art projects and outdoor games, all within a safe and supportive environment.

- Communicate professionally with peers, supervisors, parents, and staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Extended Day Program.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in leading outdoors games and recreation activities, demonstrating creativity and effective engagement techniques.
- Willingness to assist with students 3-4 years of age in a classroom setting.
- Proficiency in classroom management techniques that support a positive learning environment and enhance student participation.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while prioritizing the well-being and safety of students.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and fellow staff members.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of an early childhood classroom, including lifting up to 40 lbs., bending, kneeling, sitting on the floor, and assisting children with daily care and mobility as needed. Compensation and Benefits
This is an hourly, non-exempt position. The hourly compensation rate will be $26/hr. Benefits are provided in accordance with plan documents and subject to eligibility requirements.
