    California Attorneys for Criminal Justice (CACJ) is the country’s largest statewide organization of criminal defense lawyers and allied professionals, representing over 2,000 members. Founded in 1973, CACJ is dedicated to advancing justice and protecting the rights of individuals within the criminal legal system. The organization serves as a strong advocate in the legislature, the courts, and the media on issues affecting defense teams and their clients. Membership includes attorneys and associated professionals across California and other states, making CACJ a leading statewide association in its field. CACJ promotes professional excellence, collaboration, and meaningful impact on criminal justice policy and practice.

    Position Overview

    CACJ is seeking a part-time Administrative Assistant to support day-to-day operations, member services, and recurring administrative tasks. This role is ideal for a college or law student seeking professional experience in a state-wide legal organization.

    The position is structured around two - three consistent workdays per week, with flexibility to accommodate academic schedules. The primary focus is ensuring core administrative functions are handled efficiently, accurately, and consistently. This is a remote job, however travel 2-3 times a year is required.

    Key ResponsibilitiesMember Services

    • Serve as a first point of contact by responding to phone and email inquiries from members, registrants, and the public
    • Provide timely, accurate, and professional customer service

    Administrative Support

    • Provide general administrative support to the Managing Director and staff
    • Support general office operations and organizational needs

    Database & Data Management

    • Maintain and update the membership and event registration database

    Events & Operations Support

    • Assist with preparation and logistics for seminars, meetings, and events

    Communications Support

    • Assist with posting pre-approved content to CACJ social media channels
    • Schedule posts to maintain a consistent baseline presence
    • Support drafting of monthly newsletters and communications for review

    Preferred Skills & Qualifications

    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Customer service experience preferred
    • Comfortable working with databases and online systems
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
    • Proficiency in Google Workspace and basic digital tools

    Work Schedule

    Part-time, approximately 20 hours per week

    • Two or three consistent workdays per week (flexible based on class schedule)
    • Remote position from within California

    Ideal Candidate

    • Current college or law student (preferred, not required)
    • Professional, responsive, and detail-oriented
    • Comfortable handling routine administrative tasks
    • Reliable and able to work independently during scheduled workdays

    Level of Language Proficiency

    English required, additional languages preferred.
