    Description

    Executive Director:

Community Carrot is seeking a paid, full-time Executive Director to expand our mission breaking the cycle of poverty by empowering underrepresented young adults to start their own businesses and build generational wealth.

This role is ideal for a dynamic, community-focused leader with knowledge and experience implementing fundraising strategies. Our ideal candidate may come from a non-traditional career path. We value real-world experience, lived experience, and community leadership just as much as formal executive experience. If you’ve led community projects, built a deep record of volunteer work, or shown leadership and project management in unconventional ways, we want to hear from you.

You’ll step into an organization with proven results, strong community ties, sound finances, and a committed board. From that foundation, we will look to you to:

    • Grow our impact by expanding programming and outreach to effectively engage cohort participants
    • Set the organization’s direction by leading the development and execution of a new strategic plan, aligning staff and board around it.
    • Build culture by fostering a values-driven, inclusive workplace and investing in staff development and internal systems.
    • Serve as the champion of our organization, spearheading fundraising, building partnerships, and raising our profile in the community.

Above all, you’ll inspire and engage everyone who makes this work possible: participants, graduates, staff, volunteers, supporters, and partners.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Organizational Leadership:

    • Lead staff and board in developing and implementing a strategic plan with systems for ongoing updates.
    • Oversee budgeting, HR strategies, and operational management tools.
    • Serve as the organization’s ambassador, expanding awareness and building partnerships.

    Team Leadership and Culture-Building:

    • Foster an empowering work environment for staff, ensuring alignment with our equity-driven, participant-centered mission.
    • Guide leadership to identify needs, set goals, and track outcomes.

    Development, Partnerships, and External Relationship-Building:

    • Develop and execute a fundraising growth plan.
    • Represent Community Carrot to Seattle's social service organizations and strengthen relationships.
    • Lead donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship with staff and board collaboration.
    • Advocate for Community Carrot with government and private-sector leaders.

    Board Governance:

    • Support active board involvement, ensuring they have the information needed to make informed decisions.
    • Prepare for board and committee meetings and assist in recruitment to build a diverse, capable board.

    Candidate Profile:

We encourage applications from candidates with a range of experiences, including those from non-traditional backgrounds. Strong candidates will demonstrate many of the following:

    • Demonstrated experience building trust and developing deep connection within the communities we serve. Can be demonstrated through lived, personal, or professional experience.
    • A passion for breaking the cycle of poverty through business ownership.
    • Fundraising or partnership-building experience, with a record of securing philanthropic gifts or partnerships.
    • Demonstrated leadership experience in nonprofit, community-based, or educational settings, such as strategic planning, team management, and budgeting. Business launch or growth experience is a plus.
    • Relationship-building and advocacy skills, including experience representing an organization to donors, partners, and community members.
    • A team-oriented leadership style, fostering a supportive and cohesive culture with opportunities for growth and feedback.
    • Skilled written and verbal communicator able to build trust and alignment across all levels
    • Highly organized, with the ability to prioritize competing demands and consistently follow through on commitments.
    • Proactive in identifying challenges and implementing sustainable solutions
    • Experience with grant writing.

We value a diverse range of experiences, including leadership in community initiatives, social justice projects, small business ownership, or other forms of grassroots leadership. If you are passionate about making a difference and have the skills to lead our organization, we want to hear from you.
