    Description

About Lutheran Volunteer Corps For more than 45 years, Lutheran Volunteer Corps (LVC) currently placed fellows in full-time service positions at social justice nonprofits in Washington, D.C., Pittsburgh, PA, and Minneapolis, MN. LVC fellows live simply and sustainably in intentional community, deepening their understanding of racism, oppression, and privilege while exploring the role of spirituality in sustaining justice work. After challenges rebounding since the pandemic, there is a renewed surge in applications and work on a new 3-year Strategic Plan underway. LVC is at an exciting inflection point — and is seeking a visionary President to lead the organization into its next chapter.

Position Summary The President is the chief executive of LVC, responsible for the organization's mission, strategy, financial health, staff leadership, and external relationships. Reporting to the Board of Directors and working alongside a small, dedicated team, the ED will serve as the primary architect and champion of LVC's 3-year Strategic Plan — driving program growth, organizational sustainability, and deepened community impact. This is a rare opportunity for a mission-driven leader to shape the future of a beloved, values-centered organization.

    Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership

      • Lead implementation of LVC's 3-year Strategic Plan in partnership with the Board
      • Identify and pursue opportunities to grow the fellowship program, expand placement partnerships, and increase organizational visibility
      • Serve as the primary external spokesperson and relationship-builder for LVC

    Financial & Operational Management

      • Oversee a ~$300,000 annual budget; ensure fiscal integrity, GAAP compliance, and annual audit
      • Manage payroll, accounts payable, expense reporting, and charitable filings in partnership with outsourced accounting and compliance partners
      • Maintain compliance with all state, federal, and nonprofit regulatory requirements

    Staff & Program Oversight

      • Supervise the Program Director, Operations Manager, and outsourced accounting partner
      • Partner with the Program Director to recruit, interview, and admit fellows; host annual orientation for fellows and placement supervisors
      • Ensure continuity and quality of placement partner relationships in D.C., Pittsburgh and Minneapolis; and assess potential expansion to other cities

    Board Relations & Development

      • Prepare agendas, reports, and materials for quarterly Board meetings
      • Cultivate individual donors, church supporters, and institutional funders to grow LVC's revenue base
      • Maintain and strengthen relationships with alumni, housing partners, and the broader LVC community

    Qualifications

      • Demonstrated senior leadership experience in nonprofit management (CEO, COO, or equivalent)
      • Strong financial acumen: nonprofit finance, budgeting, and audit oversight
      • Experience with staff supervision, HR, and organizational operations
      • Commitment to LVC's core values: social justice, simple and sustainable living, intentional community, and anti-racism/anti-oppression work
      • Comfort working in an interfaith environment and with post-graduate service programs
      • Proficiency with nonprofit systems and databases (experience with Apricot, Salsa, or similar platforms a plus)
