    GNBA members are committed to fostering friendship, cross-cultural understanding and mutual respect between the people of the greater Newburyport area and those of our Sister City, Bura, Kenya.

    About Us

    The Greater Newburyport Bura, Kenya Alliance (GNBA) is Newburyport’s Sister City organization. GNBA is a non-profit organization in existence since 1993 and composed of volunteers and supporters from greater Newburyport, Massachusetts. At present, there are about 20 active members.

    GNBA has partnered to fund a number of small scale civic and social development works including:

    • medical clinics
    • reforestation & tree planting
    • education
    • youth soccer
    • beekeeping
    • literacy
    • computer technology
    • leadership for women.

    Over the twenty-seven year history, seventeen members of the Bura community have visited Newburyport, MA and similar numbers from Newburyport have visited Bura, some members having traveled there multiple times.
