Men's Textile Collective Foundation

  • Mission

MTCF is a nonprofit with a three-fold mission. We’re building a community of fiber enthusiasts by breaking the stigma around men in the textile arts. By doing that, we can introduce creative mental health and wellness tools to guys who usually wouldn't consider them because of that stigma.

At the Men's Textile Collective Foundation, we believe that making things matters. Expanding on our mission means recognizing that while the textile arts offer profound therapeutic benefits, many men face social barriers that keep them from these creative spaces. We work to lower those barriers by focusing on:

    • Community Building: We create a dedicated, stigma-free environment where men feel seen and capable. By partnering with local yarn and quilt shops, we bridge the gap between traditional "maker" spaces and those who are new to the craft.
    • Mental Wellness: We use knitting, crochet, and sewing as practical tools for stress reduction and personal stability. This is especially vital for veterans, first responders, and young men navigating modern challenges.
    • Creative Mentorship: Through our "triad" of service sites—Hamilton Elementary, Tomball High School, and Montrose Grace Place—we provide hands-on instruction that fosters patience, resilience, and a sense of accomplishment.

While our name reflects our focus on breaking barriers for men, our community is built by everyone. We welcome volunteers of all genders and backgrounds who believe that a knitting needle or a sewing machine can be a powerful tool for building a more connected, resilient world.

    About Us

    More About Us

The Men’s Textile Collective Foundation (MTCF) was born from a simple idea in August 2024: that making things matters. What started as a local initiative to get more men into fiber arts quickly grew, leading to our official 501(c)(3) registration in January 2026. We believe that creative textile work is a powerful tool for mental wellness, providing a sense of stability and accomplishment that is often missing in a digital-first world.

    Whom We Serve

Our work is centered on building people, not just teaching a hobby. We currently focus our outreach on a "triad" of community sites:

    • Hamilton Elementary: Introducing younger students to the patience and focus required for fiber arts.
    • Tomball High School: Providing a creative outlet and mentorship for young students navigating high-stress environments.
    • Montrose Grace Place: Supporting LGBTQ youth with creative skills that foster connection and personal resilience.

Beyond these sites, we are dedicated to supporting veterans and first responders, offering them a stigma-free gateway to creative wellness tools that support long-term mental health.

    Our Core Values

    • Stories Over Perfection: We value the process of making and the stories of the people behind the projects more than a "perfect" finished product.
    • Community First: We exist to uplift local yarn shops, quilt shops, and small creative businesses that anchor our neighborhoods.
    • Inclusive Spaces: While our mission focuses on breaking barriers for men, our community is built by everyone. We welcome all genders and backgrounds to join us in this work.
    • Grounded & Human: We don’t do corporate jargon or empty "toxic positivity." We speak plainly about the challenges of mental health and the tangible joy of creating something with your own hands.

Whether you are a master quilter or have never picked up a crochet hook, if you believe in the power of community and creative wellness, there is a place for you at MTCF.
