The American Kidney Fund (AKF) fights kidney disease on all fronts as the nonprofit with the greatest direct impact on people with kidney disease. AKF works on behalf of the 1 in 7 American adults living with kidney disease, and the millions more at risk, with an unmatched scope of programs that support people wherever they are in their fight against kidney disease—from prevention and early detection through post-transplant living.

With programs of prevention, early detection, health education, financial support, clinical research, innovation and advocacy, AKF positively impacts more lives than any other kidney organization. We serve the community with kidney disease management education and award-winning public and professional health education materials, courses and webinars. We drive innovation through strategic partnerships and investment in clinical research to improve patient outcomes, and we fight tirelessly for legislation and public policy to improve the lives of patients and organ donors. One out of every 8 people on dialysis cannot afford the cost of care, and we are there for them, providing lifesaving treatment-related financial assistance, and making possible about 140 transplants every month.

For our excellent fiscal management, we are proud to hold the highest ratings from charity watchdog groups year after year, including 24 consecutive 4-star ratings from Charity Navigator and the Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid, formerly known as GuideStar.
