Amicus Services of Volunteers of America
Mission
To help people build hope, resilience, and well-being.
About Us
For nearly 60 years, Amicus has believed that real change starts on the inside. Not inside a program or a policy, but inside each of us and inside the relationships that remind people they are not forgotten, not disposable, and not alone.
Amicus Services of Volunteers of America Minnesota and Wisconsin walks alongside people who are incarcerated or returning home from incarceration. We do not believe that people are defined by the worst thing they have ever done. We believe in the capacity for change, in the power of community, and in the dignity of every person we serve.
Our work is relational at its core. We show up before release and stay connected long after. We match volunteers with people who are incarcerated, run groups inside of Minnesota prisons and in the community, and provide necessary reentry support for people navigating the enormous barriers that follow someone home from prison.
Since 1967, Amicus has helped thousands of people build stable, connected lives after incarceration. Our volunteers have sat across visiting room tables, written letters, shown up on release day, and stayed long enough to become real friends. Our staff have helped people find housing, employment, and a reason to keep going when the systems around them were designed to make that harder.
We are part of Volunteers of America Minnesota and Wisconsin, an organization with over 120 years of history serving people in need. Together we have expanded our reach and deepened our impact, supporting over 1,000 individuals every year through mentoring, support groups, and reentry services.
Real change starts on the inside. We have seen it happen thousands of times. And we are not done yet.
