Second chance battalion

Second Chance Battalion (SCB) supports justice-impacted individuals and survivors of violence, with a special focus on veteran populations, as they rebuild their lives and move toward safety, stability, independence, and meaningful connection.

Through trauma-informed advocacy, stable housing, food security, workforce development, education, peer support, and community-based services, we work to remove barriers and create opportunities for individuals to heal, develop practical skills, and build sustainable futures.

Second Chance Battalion is a Michigan-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving justice-impacted individuals, survivors of violence, veterans, and others rebuilding their lives after significant hardship and trauma.

We believe rebuilding takes more than meeting immediate needs. People need safe and stable housing, supportive relationships, access to resources, opportunities to learn and work, and a community where they can regain a sense of purpose and belonging.

Our programs provide support through housing, food security, workforce development, vocational and educational training, peer mentorship, case management, advocacy, and connections to community resources. A central part of this work is Healing Homes Farm, our therapeutic and residential farm program, which provides women with a safe, supportive environment to rebuild through stable housing, meaningful responsibility, practical skill development, community connection, and involvement in the care of the farm and its animals.

Across our programs, SCB takes a trauma-informed, person-centered approach that recognizes the complex experiences of incarceration, violence, military service, trauma, and reentry. Rather than defining people by what they have experienced, we focus on their strengths, goals, and capacity to create a meaningful future.

Our goal is to help people move beyond survival and toward stability, purpose, independence, connection, and long-term success.
