The primary portion of our method is a school-based weekly mentor circle of 2-4 mentors and 5-12 teenage boys, either as a during-school or after-school program. This method has been demonstrated to result in improved grades and attendance, and reduce number of behavioral incidents.
In addition to our school-based program, Mentoring to Manhood New England (MTMNE) has an annual Boys Adventure Weekend (BAW), as well as a mentor initiation weekend event called "Reclaiming Your Teenage Fire (RTF).
The BAW is an adventure of deep self-exploration, self-discovery and sharing where the boys have the opportunity to consider and answer three questions: 1) who is the man you want to become, 2) what are the challenges (and obstacles) you might anticipate meeting in your journey towards becoming that man, and 3) what resources can you use, what actions will you take, when you meet those challenges? While there will be times when the boys are playing games, there are no activities such as canoeing or ziplining.
