    To promote and safeguard the rights and interests of roadside kiosk and open-area stall owners through capacity building, policy advocacy, environmental stewardship, and community development initiatives.

    Impacted and Achievements

    Since its establishment in 2017, Mbita Roadside Kiosk and Open Area Stall Owners CBO has made measurable progress in improving the lives and working conditions of its members and the wider roadside community. The organization’s grassroots model, combined with strong leadership and community participation, has resulted in several impactful outcomes:

    1. Secured Market Spaces for Over 180 Vendors
    • Impact: Successfully engaged Sub-County and County authorities to prevent forced evictions and relocations of roadside traders.
    • Quantified: Advocated for the rights of approximately 187 kiosk and stall owners, leading to the allocation and construction of a new open-air market for members.
    • Qualified: This achievement has significantly improved the business stability and safety of vulnerable traders, particularly women and youth.
    1. Promoted Access to Public Services (Health, Social Security)
    • Impact: Supported members in registering and contributing to NHIF and NSSF, promoting access to affordable healthcare and social protection.
    • Quantified: At least 30 members have been assisted to register for NHIF/NSSF since 2021.
    • Qualified: This has helped reduce the financial burden of illness and promoted preventive care in the community.
    1. Welfare & Emergency Support System Established
    • Impact: Created a reliable internal welfare system to support members during funerals, sickness, and emergencies.
    • Quantified: Over 45 cases of emergency or funeral support have been funded through internal member contributions since 2018.
    • Qualified: Strengthened community solidarity and reduced vulnerability during personal or family crises.
    1. Supported Education and Child Welfare
    • Impact: Fundraised to provide lunches for exam candidates at Kombe Primary School during the 2022 national exams.
    • Quantified: 34 Class Eight candidates were supported with meals for one week.
    • Qualified: Helped improve academic focus and performance among children from vulnerable backgrounds.
    1. Environmental Conservation Initiatives
    • Impact: Initiated local tree planting and clean-up campaigns along the Mbita roadside.
    • Quantified: Planted over 200 indigenous trees in collaboration with youth and school clubs.
    • Qualified: Increased awareness on climate action and improved the aesthetics and environmental health of business spaces.
