Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia

The Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia exists to renew all people in Christ. It's a diocese of The Episcopal Church and part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, standing in the shared lineage of the Catholic tradition and the Protestant Reformation. Worship follows the Book of Common Prayer, and the diocese understands its calling as continuing Jesus's own work of transforming the world through love — with an explicit commitment to justice, peace, and the dignity of every person, "all are welcome" taken as a literal, not aspirational, statement.

The Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia is home to roughly 8,000 Episcopalians across 60 congregations spread throughout the state, from the historic Diocesan office in downtown Charleston to parishes tucked into the mountains and hollows. The diocese describes its history of worship and witness as being as varied and richly textured as the West Virginia landscape itself, and it holds an intentionally expansive view of belonging — welcoming people regardless of background or circumstance, and treating that diversity as a source of strength rather than a challenge to manage. Ministry centers like Peterkin Camp & Conference Center and Sandscrest Conference & Retreat Center anchor much of its community and formation work outside the four walls of individual parishes.
