  • Mission

Journey to Healing’s mission is to heal hearts, restore hope, and empower individuals and families impacted by grief, trauma, and life challenges by providing accessible, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive mental health services, education, and community-based support. We are committed to strengthening individuals, families, and communities by reducing barriers to care, promoting emotional wellness, and creating pathways for healing, resilience, and lasting well-being.

    About Us

Journey to Healing is a Detroit-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit mental health and community wellness organization dedicated to healing hearts, restoring hope, and empowering individuals and families impacted by grief, trauma, and life challenges. Founded in 2017, Journey to Healing uses a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and holistic approach that combines clinical mental health services, education, community outreach, and prevention-focused programming. Our work is designed not only to address individual mental health needs, but also to strengthen families, build resilient communities, reduce mental health stigma, and connect individuals to resources that support long-term well-being.

We serve children, youth, adults, families, and community members across Metro Detroit, including children as young as age 2. Our organization places particular emphasis on underserved and under-resourced communities, including individuals and families experiencing grief, trauma, housing instability, socioeconomic barriers, violence, loss, and other circumstances that can affect emotional and behavioral health. Our programs are designed to be inclusive and culturally responsive and are available to people from diverse backgrounds and life circumstances.

Journey to Healing also works with schools, shelters, community organizations, healthcare-related partners, and other agencies, allowing us to reach people in the environments where they live, learn, work, and receive services.

Our work can be organized into several major areas:

    • Clinical Mental Health Services – Individual, family, child/adolescent, and grief-focused therapy provided in person and through telehealth. Therapeutic approaches include trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, family psychoeducation, and other evidence-based interventions.
    • Grief & Trauma Support – Grief support, trauma-focused services, therapeutic groups, and resources designed to help individuals and families process loss, develop coping skills, and build resilience.
    • Youth & Family Programs – Social-emotional learning, youth development, therapeutic activities, and family-centered programming. J2H incorporates approaches such as play, art, music, and drama to help children and adolescents express emotions and develop healthy coping strategies.
    • Community Outreach & Wellness Programs – Mental health awareness, wellness events, support groups, educational programming, resource connections, and community-based initiatives designed to reduce barriers to care.
    • School-Based Programming – Social-emotional and mental wellness programming, trauma-informed support, professional development, and collaboration with schools to strengthen student and family outcomes.
    • Education & Professional Training – Trainings, workshops, and educational opportunities for educators, providers, community organizations, students, interns, and other professionals.
    • Clinical Training & Supervision – Opportunities for students and emerging mental health professionals to gain supervised experience while expanding access to affordable mental health services.
    • Community Partnerships & Resource Support – Collaboration with shelters, schools, nonprofits, healthcare, and social-service organizations to address the broader needs affecting mental and emotional wellness.

We aim to create safe spaces where people feel seen, supported, and empowered. We truly believe healing is possible when people have access to compassionate care, meaningful resources, and a community that walks alongside them.
