Capital Area Private Defender Service Post-Conviction Division

The CAPDS Post-Conviction Division has three programs: The Forensic Project, the CAPDS Wrongful Conviction Project, and the CAPDS Mitigation Advancement Program. All three are aimed at improving indigent defense services. The Forensic Project and Wrongful Conviction Project provide post-conviction representation to wrongfully convicted persons in Travis County. The Mitigation Advancement Program is a statewide resource for attorneys defending indigent clients in non-death penalty murder cases funded through a grant from the Texas Indigent Defense Commission.

In 2026, the CAPDS Post-Conviction Division was honored to receive the first Jeff Blackburn Award from the State Bar of Texas for excellence in innovation in indigent defense.
