St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery
Mission
St. Mark’s strives to embody the world we know is possible. Rooted in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, we are a community of radical welcome, vibrant worship, and courageous witness. We believe God’s love calls us to care for one another and our neighbors, to stand with those who are pushed to the margins, and to work together for a more just, peaceful, and compassionate world.
About Us
St. Mark’s is a historic Episcopal church in the East Village of Manhattan with a rich and unconventional history at the intersection of faith, the arts, and social justice. Our commitment to racial justice was shaped by a significant parish reckoning in the 1960s, and that history continues to challenge us to grow and expand our welcome. For generations, St. Mark’s has been a home for worship, poetry and the arts, community programs, and people from many different backgrounds. Today, we are a diverse and growing community that values curiosity, creativity, generosity, and collaboration—and we are committed to being a place where people can find belonging, purpose, and hope.
