Students for Refugees
Mission
Students for Refugees empowers displaced youth through education, mentorship, and advocacy, creating pathways to success for refugee students worldwide.
About Us
The mission of Students for Refugees is to champion awareness and education about the ongoing refugee crisis caused by persecution, conflict, violence, and human rights violations. We strive to deepen understanding of migration issues—pre-migration, transmigration, and post-migration.
Our organization empowers students to volunteer, advocate, and foster community participation for this vulnerable population, in collaboration with numerous agencies dedicated to assisting refugees.
Through engagement, our students will gain invaluable insights into resilience and perseverance from the stories of the refugees they encounter. SFR organizes donation drives, where we purchase, package, and distribute essential items like food and hygiene products door-to-door to those in need, helping up to 80 families in one day. We regularly collaborate with organizations to host events catered to those displaced, like our Annual Houston Community Health Fair. In addition to community-based aid, SFR's tutoring program pairs refugee students with college mentors that provide weekly 1-on-1 English practice and academic support. To further our goal of awareness building, SFR also hosts refugee field experts to guest speak and share their knowledge and resources with the new generation.
Our goal is to build a international network of students committed to promoting human rights, peace, and advocacy for displaced refugee children and their families, starting in Houston, which proudly hosts the largest number of resettled refugees in the United States.
