Painted Bins, a project of Sustainable Marin

Painted Bins empowers youth to become environmental stewards through programs that combine environmental education, visual arts and public speaking to inspire meaningful real climate action.

Painted Bins provides environmental education to Marin County elementary and middle school students, and our initial focus is waste diversion. Students design impactful posters promoting landfill diversion, reinforcing their learning through creative expression. The posters are showcased at local art shows and on public waste collection bins to encourage proper sorting. They further advance climate action by speaking at Painted Bins’ events and contributing blogs posts to the Painted Bins website.

We are proud to give students platforms to share their voices as ambassadors for the environment. These students will inherit the earth so their passion for protecting it is evident throughout the posters that they make, the speeches that they give at our events, and the blogs that they write for our website.

Through Painted Bins' programs, students learn important life-long skills in critical thinking, collaboration, communication and creativity, along with the environmental education.

Painted Bins' believes that every child deserves to have their voice heard and our work in Title 1 Schools ensures that these students can have the same opportunities to share their learnings, while developing important skill sets.

Our programs and events bring communities together to not only support youth, but to learn from these young people how small individual actions can help mitigate climate change, Our multi-pronged approach unties stakeholders to reduce landfill waste- lowering greenhouse emissions and lessening the impact of climate change on our communities.
