We have all witnessed the devastating impact of school shootings, depression, suicides, domestic violence, divorce, drug addiction, and other social problems that stem from a lack of emotional intelligence. But what have you done about these problems? Mental health doesn't need to be an illness to have a negative impact on our selves, our family members and our community. Students drop out of school due to anxiety, neighbors struggle with depression, and tragically, some lives are ended too soon. When you look around, you see the same patterns repeating nationwide: unacceptable rates of persistent problems which stem from inadequate mental and emotional health education and low adoption rates of mental health counseling.

Mental health is a critical component of overall well-being, yet it remains significantly underfunded and stigmatized. It’s time for change. We are calling on the government to allocate seventy billion dollars towards mental health education and counseling services. This funding will empower schools to integrate comprehensive mental health education into their curriculum and ensure every individual has access to professional mental health counseling.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, almost one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness. This crisis doesn’t just affect those diagnosed, but everyone around them - families, friends, and colleagues. The social and economic costs of ignoring mental health can no longer be overlooked. Investing in mental health education and services is investing in a healthier, more productive nation.

By allocating these funds, we can create a society where mental health is a priority, understanding is deepened, stigma is reduced, and everyone has the support they need to lead healthy lives.
