  • Mission

lower nine. org is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization involved in the long-term recovery of New Orleans’ historic Lower Ninth Ward from Hurricane Katrina and the levee breaches of 2005.

    About Us

lowernine.org is dedicated to training residents of, and volunteers in, the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, LA, in the skills necessary to bring this century-old historic neighborhood back to life after the devastation wrought by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. These skills include basic carpentry, roofing, plumbing, electrical wiring, sheetrock finishing, tiling, etc., which are needed if houses are going to become habitable once again. Additionally, we participate in activities that benefit the neighborhood as a whole, such as lot clearing, an annual blight survey, and assessing city services. On top of that we enhance food security in the area through our food pantry.
