    Mission

Richmond LAND builds grassroots power for community-controlled land and housing through organizing, acquisition, development, and stewardship for the long-term benefit of Richmond residents.

    About Us

    About Richmond LAND

Richmond LAND is a community-driven, membership-based organization dedicated to creating pathways for everyday people to organize, acquire, and co-steward land and properties as community assets to build staying power now and for the future. We build grassroots power for community-controlled land and housing and work to keep Richmond rooted by removing land from the speculative market to protect homes for working-class families and conserve land for long-term community needs.

    Vision

We envision thriving, rooted neighborhoods across Richmond and West Contra Costa County where residents have secure, affordable homes; small businesses and community organizations flourish; culture and connection are protected; and development reflects community vision rather than market pressures.

    What We Do

    • Organizing & Member Leadership: We cultivate resident power, popular education, and collective governance grounded in community priorities.
    • Land Acquisition & Stewardship: As Contra Costa’s first community land trust, we remove land from speculation and steward it for long-term community benefit.
    • Policy & Advocacy: We advance equitable policies that center community voice in land use and housing decisions.
    • Transformative Real Estate Projects: We develop sustainable, community-designed housing and place-based projects to expand affordable housing and shared wealth.

    Work Model

Richmond LAND operates as a remote-first organization with required in-person meetings, events, and community engagement in Richmond and West Contra Costa County.

    Equity Commitment

We center equity, collective action, and lived experience in all we do, ensuring community priorities guide land and housing decisions.
