Ten Thousand Villages of Austin
Ten Thousand Villages of Austin provides vital, fair income to Third World people by marketing their hand crafted items and telling their stories. We give a fair, living wage to artisans from over 30 countries. Our goal is to benefit disadvantaged artisans, not to maximize profits. Ten Thousand Villages works with artisans who would be otherwise be unemployed or underemployed. This income helps pay for food, education, health care, or housing. Ten Thousand Villages establishes ongoing relationships with cooperatives in order to provide the artisans a dependable source of income.
Our store offers a distinctive selection of fairly traded handcrafts, clothing, musical instruments, home decor, coffee and art from around the world.
We are a member of the International Federation of Alternative Trade and the Fair Trade Federation, U.S. We are staffed by volunteers.
