  • Mission

The Brandywine Battlefield Park educates the public about the events leading up to and surrounding the Battle of Brandywine, September 11th, 1777. This is primarily done through our museum & film, house tours of the Benjamin Ring Home (Washington’s Headquarters) and Gideon Gilpin Home. Brandywine Battlefield is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and is actively supported by the Brandywine Battlefield Park Associates.

    About Us

The Brandywine Battlefield is a Revolutionary War Battlefield that encompasses approximately 35,000 acres

in Chester and Delaware Counties, Pennsylvania. The Brandywine Battlefield Park is a 52-acre park and

serves as a starting point for exploring the battlefield. The Park consists of a Visitor’s Center, Museum, and

two 18th Century Quaker Homes: the Benjamin Ring Home (Washington’s Headquarters), and the Gideon

Gilpin Home. The Ring House was restored throughout the 1940s and the park opened to the public in 1951.

Brandywine Battlefield’s "Hands-on-History" approach to learning means that visitors of all ages can have a

lively and interactive experience. With our dedication to careful and ongoing research, we are continually

    updating our exhibits and information.

Brandywine Battlefield is owned and administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, a

Commonwealth agency. The Brandywine Battlefield Park Associates is a private non-profit organization that

works with the Commonwealth to assist in park operations and provide educational programs and initiatives.
