About Us

Addressing the College completion gap among students attending under resourced schools, The “I Have A Dream” Foundation [IHDF] believes that when given equal access to the resources students need to succeed, all children can ignite their innate potential and achieve their dreams. Founded in 1981, by Philanthropist Eugene M. Lang, The “I Have A Dream” Foundation is a National organization serving 14 Affiliates and over 4000 youth across the nation and New Zealand. Recognizing the importance of long-term positive relationships, each "I Have A Dream" Program works with young people from the time they are in elementary school straight through high school graduation and into their college and career pursuits.

We believe that to uplift the most vulnerable communities in society – including people of color, people from working class backgrounds, women and LGBTQ people, these communities must have a voice and be centered in the work we do.  The “I Have A Dream” Foundation - New York ensures high quality relevant programming through inclusive practices that combat racial and educational inequities. Only by understanding these factors can leaders develop and implement the strategies needed to move the needle, increasing opportunities for life success for many more students.
