Conservly

Conservly's mission is to protect underserved communities from the growing dangers of extreme heat through original scientific research, community education, awareness campaigns, and direct, on-the-ground action by turning data into life-saving resources for the neighborhoods that need them most.

Conservly is a youth-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Chino Hills, California. We were founded by high school student Aarav Desai, whose machine learning research project called THRIVE uses hospital emergency data and satellite imagery to identify which neighborhoods in the Los Angeles and San Bernardino County area face the greatest risk during extreme heat events. That research, developed with mentors at USC, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, NYU, and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, is what drives everything we do on the ground.

Our programs are direct and practical: we distribute heat kits to vulnerable residents, plant trees.. We are now expanding into heat-safety education by teaching communities how to hydrate, protect themselves from the sun, recognize heat illness, and find shade with a curriculum designed to be run by students anywhere in the world.

We believe the students closest to a problem are best positioned to solve it. Our team of ~15 members serves heat-vulnerable communities across the Inland Empire and greater Los Angeles area in California USA and we are looking for National and International Chapter Leads within or outside the U.S. to bring this work to their own cities and schools.
