About Us

The Drama League of New York advances the arts sector in NYC by providing life-long resources for artists who identify as directors in theater, film, television, music, dance, and in online environments, and a platform for dialogue with audiences illuminating their work. Founded in 1916, as one of the longest-running arts service organizations in the country, we continuously adapt to meet artists’ needs. We are the only organization providing comprehensive lifelong developmental support to directors, who are deeply under-resourced in the industry.

For 40 years, The Directors Project has provided industry access, personalized mentorship, professional development, and production opportunities for early- and mid-career directors. Through multi-year professional directing Fellowships, Residencies for director/creators, Assistantships for early-career BIPOC directors, skill-building workshops, and an afterschool program for NYC students, we deliver critical career development resources that are not available elsewhere. Our goal is to help directors build sustainable careers in the arts and support a more diverse and inclusive leadership for the sector.
