About Us

Documented is a non-profit news site devoted solely to covering New York City’s immigrants and the policies that affect their lives.

We provide original reporting on the ground-level impact of shifts in labor policy, law–enforcement practices and bureaucratic requirements, and on the effects of new federal directives. And we’ll keep you updated on the most important news from elsewhere.

To support our mission we will be asking for donations from our readers to help us grow. We believe that by financing ourselves through reader revenue we can maintain our ethical standards and focus on the issues that matter most to you — the reader.

Documented also runs on Civil, a new platform that utilizes the blockchain to create a better ecosystem for original journalism.

We chose to team up with Civil for two reasons: 1) Publishing our stories on the blockchain will allow them to be permanently archived and protected from censorship or attacks; 2) The blockchain will facilitate a governance structure that rewards quality journalism and holds our newsroom accountable solely to readers. This is made possible by the Civil protocol, which enforces the ethical journalism standards set forth in the Civil Constitution.

We are an early stage non-profit under fiscal sponsorship from the Institute for Nonprofit News.
