About Us
The mission of Filling in the Blanks is to fight childhood hunger by providing children in need with meals on the weekends. Started by Co-Founders Tina Kramer and Shawnee Knight in 2013, Filling in the Blanks strives to strengthen and empower healthy communities by increasing access to healthy food, specifically for low-income children and their families. For thirteen years, Filling in the Blanks has fulfilled this mission by delivering non-perishable meals directly to children from low-income families each weekend to bridge the gap when they are not receiving nutrition from their schools, after-school programs, or camps.
Food insecurity causes serious barriers to student success. By providing two breakfasts, two lunches, snacks, and a beverage to each child enrolled in our program, we fill an essential need with compounding effects. By reducing hunger, we are ensuring children return to school each week ready to learn. A hungry child is distracted; a fed child is focused. Children with the energy to listen attentively in school perform better and increase their chances of long-term success.
