  • Mission

    The vision of Mangalam Research Center for Buddhist Languages is to create a body of knowledge that facilitates the translation and transmission of the Buddhist written tradition and classical languages into English.

    Mangalam Research Center offers programs in Buddhist studies and develops tools to aid translation. Its programs have been attended by scholars from around the world, and it often receives grants in support of its conferences and translation projects.

    MRC is affiliated with the Center for Creative Inquiry (CCI), also a 501(c)(3) non-profit, which explores non-religious approaches to develop the knowledge we need in our challenging time.

    About Us

    MRC was founded by Tibetan lama Tarthang Tulku (operating as Head Lama of Tibetan Nyingmapa Meditation Center, a tax-exempt church. It support study, research, and programs that transmit the teachings of Buddhism (especially Mahayana Buddhism) to the West. Many of its programs are for academics, but MRC also offers classes, talks, and workshops for the general public. Center for Creative Inquiry offers workshops, talks, and retreats that aim to move beyond conventional forms of knowledge.
