Communities In Schools of the Charleston Area, Inc.

Communities In Schools of the Charleston Area, Inc. (CIS), is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the drop-out rate in Charleston and Berkeley County. The mission of CIS is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

CIS has addressed the dropout rate in Charleston County for 26 years. More recently, CIS expanded into Berkeley County. At CIS, our work begins with our placement of Student Support Specialists in schools to work alongside the principals and teachers, identifying those students highest at-risk of dropping out. Once identified, Student Support Specialists provide a variety of support services to these students including but not limited to mentoring, tutoring, life skills training, pregnancy prevention services, personal and family counseling and drug and alcohol abuse awareness.

We are always looking for caring members of the community to serve as mentors and/or tutors!
