American Legislative Exchange Council
1101 Vermont Ave
Located blocks from the White House, ALEC is the nation’s largest nonpartisan, individual membership association of state legislators, representing both Republicans and Democrats, with more than 2,000 members from all 50 states, as well as 85 former members serving in the U.S. Congress. Our mission is to advance the Jeffersonian principles of free markets, limited government, federalism and individual liberty among America’s state legislators. In addition to having more than one-third of all state legislators as members, ALEC also has more than 300 corporate and private-sector members, creating one of America’s most dynamic public-private partnerships. Our eight Task Forces work on more than 1,000 model bills each year, and an average of 200 are passed in state legislatures.
