  • Mission

We are a nonprofit alliance formed to promote expanded access to government records, meetings and other proceedings at the state and local level so that citizens can engage with and participate in their representative democracy.

    About Us

VCOG works every day to defend citizen access and government transparency in Virginia. We advocate for ready and affordable access to state and local government records and meetings; we train government employees and officials; we mentor young people on principles of transparent government; and we offer fast, dependable answers to questions posed by citizens, reporters, advocates, lawyers and anyone who needs help understanding the ins and outs of Virginia's Freedom of Information Act.
