About Us

MAPLE (Microdevelopment for the Alleviation of Poverty through Learning and Entrepreneurship) is a U.S. based international non-profit organization currently serving post-conflict Ugandan communities and indigenous Mapuche communities in Chile. We work closely with community members to co-design financial services and income generating opportunities that can be managed and sustained by communities themselves in accordance with their own cultural values, needs, and aspirations. We also work closely with youth in each community to build the skills necessary of sustaining community-based development initiatives across generations. We are a group of students, university faculty, professionals and community members from both industrialized and developing countries who work together to create strong intercultural models for community-managed development and leadership training.
